Australia's first ever Assyrtiko! After first tasting Assyrtiko in 2006 whilst on holiday on the Greek Island of Santorini, Peter Barry was intrigued. Its crisp and acidic qualities reminded him of the Clare Valley Rieslings he was famous for producing, yet there was a unique flavour that he hadn't experienced before! He set out to bring the grape variety native to Santorini to our shores, and in 2012 the first Assyrtiko cuttings were planted at the Barry's Lodge Hill Vineyard in Clare Valley. The first vintage made in 2014 produced only 15 litres. The 2017 vintage produced enough juice to be able to be launched to the trade, albeit in restricted amounts.
This wine is the bomb! It is clean, crisp and super refreshing. It has the slightest hint of sweetness that makes it all the more moreish. This is summer drinking at its best, teamed with fresh Australian seafood, or just team it with a wine glass. You cant go wrong with this Aussie Greek!
